A Brief History of Jeeva Matha Devotion, Sholinganallur

The History
Sholinganallur was erected into a Parish and was given to the care of the Servites in the year 1998. The new church dedicated to Infant Jesus was constructed in the year 2000. Rev. Fr. Susaimani, who was parish priest in 2002, blessed and instituted the statue of Jeeva Matha (Our Lady of Life) with the help of the donor Mr. Arockianathan. He started the novena on Saturdays. It was Most Rev. Lawrence Pius, the auxiliary Bishop of Chennai – Mylapore, who blessed and instituted the statue. Just within a few months after instituting the holy statue of Jeeva Matha people started receiving their petitions.

Jeeva Matha (Our Lady of Life) is a statue depicting mother Mary as in pregnancy, having Jesus in her womb. Therefore, it is firmly believed that those women who are longing for the gift of the child, when they pray to Our Lady of Life, receive the gift by the powerful intercessions of our Lady. There have been more than 1500 children received by the intercessions of Jeeva Matha. People from all faiths, from all over Southern states of India, flock to her.

First Saturday

The First Saturday of every month is dedicated to Jeeva Matha. The day begins with praying of the rosary. Then those faithful who have experienced the healing and consoling hand of God in their lives through the intercessions of Jeeva Matha, share their faith experiences as witness. There will be a Solemn Eucharistic Celebration after that. At the end of the Eucharistic celebrations, an Healing Adoration Service is conducted where people from other beliefs also participate actively. At the end, meals are provided for all.

In Future...

We are planning to create a platform for providing counselling helps (Psychological, Social, Spiritual) for the people, especially, for those who are without children and therefore undergoing crisis situations.
